My Return to Venezia has just won first place in the Robert Avalon International Composer Competition, university/emerging artist division! Stay tuned for Venezia‘s orchestral premiere in December at my senior recital.
More information on the competition from the Houston, Texas-based Foundation for Modern Music, www.modernmusic.org/competition.htm:
The competition is open to junior, high school, college and professional composers, with cash awards for first and second place in each category. The top two winners in all divisions other than Junior will also have the opportunity to hear their works publicly performed and recorded during FMM’s 2012-2013 season.
Through the competition, Foundation for Modern Music honors its late Artistic Director Robert Avalon, who helped develop and initiate several important new projects for the Foundation, including this competition for young, college and mid-career composers. In the spirit of Robert, who devoted himself tirelessly to the encouragement and education of young musicians throughout the Houston area, we look forward to another year of submissions from some of the freshest, most fascinating musical minds in Houston and beyond.
